TechUp Africa is a non-profit initiative under PAWEN dedicated to supporting Africans in tech careers. Over the past year, we have made great strides in our mission to help young Africans develop the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in the tech industry.

Throughout the year, we have held a variety of events and initiatives designed to provide valuable resources and support to our community. These have included a conference, workshops, and a mentorship program, all aimed at helping aspiring tech professionals gain the skills and experience they need to succeed.

In addition to these programs, we have also worked to build partnerships with leading tech companies and organizations, providing our community with valuable training opportunities.

As we look back on the past year, we are proud of all that we have accomplished and the positive impact we have made on the lives of young Africans pursuing careers in tech. We look forward to continuing this work in the coming year and supporting even more aspiring tech professionals on their journey toward success.

Women in Tech Conference

TechUp Africa kicked off this year by hosting a highly successful women in tech conference, which brought together women from all over the continent to network, learn, and share their experiences in the tech industry.

The conference provided a platform for top tech professionals to share their inspiring stories, knowledge, and experiences. From keynote speeches to panel discussions and networking opportunities, the conference was packed with valuable content and opportunities for attendees to connect with others in the field.

The conference also highlighted the important role that women play in driving innovation and shaping the future of tech. Overall, it was a highly successful and enriching experience for all who participated.

Mentorship Program

Following the conference, TechUp Africa launched a mentorship program designed to provide support and guidance to women in tech.

The program paired experienced professionals from top tech companies with aspiring tech professionals, providing them with the opportunity to learn from each other and grow their careers.

Overall, the mentorship program was a resounding success and a valuable addition to TechUp Africa's offerings. We are grateful for the mentors who volunteered their time to impact the lives and careers of African women in tech.

Here are some reviews from our participants:

It was both intriguing and difficult. Being self-taught made it more difficult, but with the help of mentors, it was simpler to succeed. The training helped me realize my inner strength and that I can accomplish anything I set my mind to, no matter how challenging it may seem. Above all, it was a memorable event, especially for someone like myself who had recently switched to the tech industry. -Onyinye

I enjoyed every bit of the program. The meetups and tasks assigned to me, it really helped to push me to do and learn more. More grateful for my mentor for dedicating her time to always meet up with me and clarify terms or tasks I didn’t understand. She was all shades of amazing. -Favour

It was awesome. It exposed me to the knowledge I needed to acquire about frontend development. My mentor worked very hard throughout the internship to make sure that I understand and write programming languages. During the internship, I worked on and completed some projects using HTML, CSS and JavaScript. This internship has provided with the wing to fly in frontend development career path and I am grateful to all all the organizers. -Oluwasekemi

TechDevTalks

In addition to the mentorship program, TechUp Africa also ran a series of tech events throughout the year called “TechDevTalks”.

This brought together experts and thought leaders from the tech industry to share their insights, knowledge, and expertise with attendees. And the events have covered a variety of topics, ranging from resume writing, personal branding, maintaining work-life balance, and kickstarting a career in data.
